The Drawing Class is all about drawing.  

Through a wide variety of materials students will develop, enhance and ultimately sharpen their drawing skills.  Drawing is the ability to translate what is visually observed into organized thoughts, which are intern represented by ones own markings.  Visual awareness, the ability to see and understand details will be strengthened through the artists ability accurately draw what they see.

PROJECTS / WORK REQUIRED

A)Students will explore issues of drawing through the following list of subjects:

                                      Portrait

                                      Still Life

                                      Wild Life

                                      Abstraction

                                Landscape

B)  Students will complete an image which creates the illusion of depth across specific geometric shapes.

C)  Students will have the opportunity to use pencil, chalk, ink and non traditional materials to strengthen their drawing skills. 

D)  Students will create a semester final which is to highlight the best of their abilities.

A Common Surface Light Source

Issues of light source across the surface of objects is explored through geometric shapes.  Students are taught how to apply light source across the surface of objects so that the light source describe the surface of the object.  

With this knowledge the students are taught how to determine a commons light source for multiple objects in a grouping.

Formal Self Portrait

Students will expand their portrait drawing knowledge skills.  They will demonstrate their understanding by creating a formal self portrait.  This portrait will be completed in pencil.

A Controlled Scribble

Students will use a controlled scribble to complete a second portrait study.  This image will use bold applications of colors that are placed in a repetitive motion.  Portrait technique and surface light source is important with this image.  These image must follow an obvious color grouping.

Domestic Pet Portrait

Pets have portraits to!  The texture of hair is always an issue when creating a portrait.  Animals with fur the issue of hair type texture is multiplied.  

Wild Animals

Like humans animal can be whimsical.  The students will need to create an image of a wild animal that is demonstrating whimsical human characteristic.

Figure Drawing

Abstraction of a person in motion.  Details and shape are reduce to their primary elements to create this abstract of a person playing basketball.  Color is added to emphasize a mood or feeling.

Still Life

A small collection of three or more objects.  Color can be applied with color pencils, markers or watercolors.  Details, shape and light source needs to be considered.
