The Pottery Class will provide the opportunity to explore a wide variety of pottery construction opportunities.  Students will create a wide variety of hand built pottery related objects, revisiting several art techniques. 

Grades will be determined based upon the students’ ability to demonstrate mastery of techniques and skills discussed within units of study.  The focus of this pottery class is hand built constructions.  Coil and Slab pottery techniques will be used with all constructions.

All units are open to verbal or written quizzes.  These will be graded.

Students will construct; lids, covers and modified cover/lids

Handle for Clay Pottery

Students will learn how to create three types of ceramic handle;

Pulled

Cut

Coiled

Sphere Pottery Sculptures

Students will design a small piece of sculpture based on the Sphere.

These sculptures begin with a hollow sphere, which is created using the simplest of pottery construction techniques - a pinch pot.

Novelty Pottery

Students will design and create a small piece of pottery which is based on a known man made object.  For this assignment the students may choose the type of pottery technique.

Shape and details are important.

This piece of pottery will be painted, which means that the surface texture needs to be considered.
